Special Green EcoLight Sign Lights for Barnet and Enfield
Special Green EcoLight Sign Lights for Barnet and Enfield
At TMP, we love a challenge—especially when it involves finding a smarter, more sustainable way to do things. So, when the London boroughs of Barnet and Enfield needed a bespoke green EcoLight sign light, we were more than happy to step up. Working alongside contractor Equans, we developed a solution that not only met their exact colour requirements but also brought major benefits in durability and sustainability.
The Challenge: A Heritage Look with Modern Performance
Barnet and Enfield came to us almost two years ago with a clear request: they wanted green-painted sign lights that could accommodate a CMS node on a Nema socket. Their previous supplier wasn’t able to do it—but at TMP, we don’t believe in “can’t.”
Rather than simply painting aluminium lights, we suggested an upgrade: using our EcoLight sign lights, made from moulded polymer instead. This meant we could create the lights in their exact green shade from the outset, avoiding the need for paint while making them lighter, tougher, and better for the environment.
Why Polymer? A Smarter, More Sustainable Choice
Switching from aluminium to polymer wasn’t just about aesthetics—it brought several real-world benefits:
- No Paint, No Problem – The green colour is moulded into the polymer, so there’s no risk of chipping, peeling, or fading over time.
- Lightweight & Easy to Install – The EcoLight is lighter than aluminium, making handling and installation much easier for contractors.
- Rust-Free & Weather-Resistant – Unlike aluminium, which can corrode, polymer is completely rust-proof, ensuring longevity in all conditions.
- Pre-Wired & Sealed Unit – Each EcoLight comes pre-wired and fully sealed, cutting down on installation time and reducing maintenance worries.
- 100% Recyclable – At the end of their life, these lights can be fully recycled, supporting the boroughs’ sustainability goals.
Delivered, Installed, and Working Seamlessly
After extensive development and testing, we’ve now delivered the first dozen green EcoLight sign lights to Barnet and Enfield. They’re installed, fully operational, and working exactly as planned—with the CMS nodes commissioned and running smoothly.
This project also highlights just how personal street lighting can be. While most councils go for standard grey or black, Barnet and Enfield insisted on their signature heritage green—just like Maidstone’s blue columns or Hertfordshire’s red ones. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference to local identity.
A New Standard for Streetlighting?
This project proves that sustainable materials can outperform traditional aluminium while meeting the unique needs of local councils. With no painting, no rust, and no unnecessary weight, the EcoLight sign light is a smarter choice all round.
